Solar power bus stations…hmm

just came across this, now lets think for a sec, california is putting them now, sooo east coast will do it in like say.. 8 years? and i am not talking college campuses!

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom recently unveiled the first of 1,100 solar powered bus shelters that will be installed throughout the city between now and 2013. Crowned with a rolling red crest of photovoltaic panels, the shelters will use the sun’s rays to power their intercom, LED lighting, and even wireless routers that will help blanket the city with WiFi goodness. Designed by Lundberg Design and contracted through Clear Channel, the new shelters signal a bright future for solar technology in the Bay Area.

Segway + GM urban car

okay…everything below came from this blog… LINK

Are you ready for the newest mode of transportation? Bye bye bicycle, hello P.U.M.A.

P.U.M.A. stands for Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility vehicle. It’s a two-wheeled vehicle that balances on gyroscopes and is powered by rechargeable batteries. Top speed is 35 miles per hour or three times as fast as a Segway scooter. The PUMA will cost 1/3 to 1/4 the cost of a traditional vehicle and a three hour charge will cost only 35 cents. A single charge will take you 35 miles. It’s intended for city dwellers and was developed by G.M. and Segway. Gold star for G.M. for trying to turn around their gas guzzling S.U.V. ways!

Coolest part? The cars would communicate with each other wirelessly to regulate speed, reduce congestion and prevent accidents. These small, nimble electric vehicles will know where other moving objects are and will avoid running into them. An internet like web will connect the vehicles so that people can move through the cities and find places to park and connect.

projectors for cars…

Castrade plans to take advantage of its expertise as a distributor of automotive audio-visual equipment and monitors to market the CV-MP02 for use in automobiles. Though the projector can be used in vehicles “as it is,” dedicated accessories will be released to promote its use in vehicles, the company said. Castrade also envisions its use for presentations by connecting it with a notebook PC.

I am sure there is a purpose for having a projector in your car…but i still going EH?! okay, lets take a step back and visualize an audio/visual media for your car. CAR PARTY! DOWN THE STREET! is what i am thinking for this device. Bring back the old school – high school hangout joints on a corn field to an empty parking lot. So how will it work while driving your car? Well…i can image friends in the back seat partying, or we can do the whole “roll” your car slowly down main street.

I don’t know, just trying to see the market worth of a car projector.

transits of the world

okay, besides toilet design, my other insane hobby is public transportation design. I am no transportation/auto designer, and i don’t want to be one. I pretty much look at metro design as a culture imprint to the city. Everything from location/train line layout—station architecture—graphics—subway car room— is what i look and see how they all fit together for a particular culture. America is one country but in each city is a different system of signage and equipment they use. And of course in Europe such metros fascinate me because the culture is more dependent on their subways than the American. If i have a favorite, that is difficult to pin point, cause well, I like the “actions” of our experiences. For instance, in Moscow I love the effect the escalators have when you leave and enter the subway station. But in Paris, I love the “family-ness” of the car seat layouts in each car. So there is no one loved metro. but i have to admit i need to see the Asian ones… in time…in time.
