info architects mapping the web

The metaphor of using a subway system to represent the web is something of a paradox…as humans we need to see patterns that reflect mysteries into constructive logic. Taking a subway map since we (city folks) are so familiar to their mystery and apply to a much larger and complicated and abstract mystery – the web. Looking at the diagram as a whole is overwelling but when you “dive in” or get closer it starts to make more sense, like each station is a miniture city.

graphic love documentary

quick explaination of how the internet was born, in a rough sense, but i like the interaction and play of the graphics through the vid.

Better than Trillian + Pidgin – welcome Digsby

okay for those don’t know you can get a software for all your MSN, AIM, etc accounts in one, but now you can’t keep track of your status of folks online, but don’t want to waste time doing it.

Try Digsby, but i just found out about it, so i shall try it for a time. I like the email note cause i have too many to keep track and hate to login individually.

Move over Trillian and Pidgin. There is a bigger, more bad-a$$ multi-protocol Instant Messaging client out there and it’s called Digsby.
Digsby lets you keep track of friend requests, messages, group invites, etc for your Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and LinkedIn accounts, and you can also set your status directly from Digsby. But wait, there’s more! Digsby also notifies you of new mail for your Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, AOL/AIM Mail, IMAP, and POP accounts, and it provides you with  a snapshot of new messages.

Discovered Clip Marks

Just testing it’s ability and i must say, convenient! so far….
okay so… the next step for clipmarks is more control. yeah… i am picky but also i am not. Our society has grown picky…last century it was about speed – faster and faster – internet, email, instant messaging, cellphone – now i notice the pattern is control…. the way we blog – the level of control to change colors, stylize, and make it the way the user wants it. Even on the scale of cellphones, we want control of our cellphone and access everywhere on the grid. If a wifi connection is down, we get upset because we lost control of the wifi.
For clipmarks i want control of the edge widget borders and to make the video file bigger, which i have already done, by going through the code and changing the numbers. But do i want to do this for every clipmark i post. but, i think i can deal with this because control is complete outweighed by convenience!

You can save clips publicly for others to see, post them to Facebook, or embed a widget of them on your own site. You can also save clips privately for your own viewing later. Your clip collection is searchable from any computer with an internet connection (including your iPhone, Blackberry, etc).

MINDJET – a mindmapping software

So i went in search of mindmap by mindjet. (thanks to the doc in a previous posting) I can’t give an opinion yet cause i just found it, but once i play around with it (give me a month or so) i will give the update. for now the link is for others who wish to try it out (they have a 30 day trail – but that is never enough time). And personally i don’t think this is the best picture to represent the program (it needs some graphic love!)

they have a blog too. LINK

firebug! secrets EXPOSED

firebugWorking on the web is very different for an industrial designer, the last time i read or wrote a code was middle school. Man i wish i got more interested in all this, at less i think i can pretty much read it! anyway i found this helpful to understand what+how another website was built for all the errors i am doing on my website. It is very helpful to figure out the math sequences, geeh… my math faded too due to art school!  now i just need to figure out CSS… brrrrrr. (link is the pic)

my past is haunting me!

Foxmarks for IE and safari

foxmarks IF you don’t know foxmarks than you should. It is the most convenient plugin for firefox webserver. Now the feature can be used on IE and safari. Why i suggest to get it, don’t you use multiple computers in you life. work-home-on the go- friends… well this allows you to organize and sync your bookmarts by the profile you make on the web. And it saves you time! to remember where you research. I say if you do internet researching like  i do, than you are require to have this plugin. Cause i don’t know how anyone can do efficient researching without it.

Have you FLOCKED yet?

I just came across this when i was finding some FLAC media convertors online…. This is a new web browser to redirect how one connects with people on the internet, you don’t have to go to a web address to log in, such as blogging, i am not at my webpage to blog but on a pop up menu to just blog right on the spot and publish, so convenient! you can now see what your friends are up to on facebook without logging on to the website. etc etc. you must check it out for fun sake.
