The Wanderer wandering

I very much like this take about understanding how the consumer “wanders” through information in search of what they are or are not looking for.

full article is at the link below:

The second element of an experience is that it is driven by content. People see content and experiences, in the digital space at least, as duplicative. Not true, says Wikipedia, the Walter Cronkite of the Web 3.0 generation. Content is defined as “….information or experiences that may provide value for an end user….delivered via any medium.” To make something experiential, it must be driven by content to create Digital Visibility. Digital visibility is created three different ways, two of which still allow some semblance of control.

1. Existing Content (already created so control over where it goes)

2. Digital Original Content (created specifically by brands so some control)

3. User Generated Content (no control)

Distributing this content allows us to show value to the consumer through an experience. The goal of any experience is to place it in the right place at the right time in front of the right person. There are three markers that allow us to do that represented here:

Mobile Hotspot! YES!

http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2009/07/29/novatel-wireless-mifi-2372-intelligent-mobile-hotspot_KG1Rh_59.jpg

There are some, indeed there are many people across the world that would love to have a mobile intelligent hotspot right in their pockets to endure the virtues of connectivity on the go. For that lot of people, Novatel Wireless has introduced the MiFi 2372 HSPA, which is the latest version of its Mobile Hotspot with multi-mode operation that includes HSPA, UMTS, EDGE and GPRS. This device has the ability of creating a personal cloud of high-speed internet connectivity which can be shared over a bunch of users and Wi-Fi enabled devices such as cellphones. It promises (for the reviews are yet to come) data speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps downlink and 5.76 Mbps uplink-which is really fast for a portable connectivity device. The thingamajig comes with Novatel’s proprietary NovaSpeed technology which steps up a gear for videos, online games, multiple downloads etc. It can also double up as a storage device for there are relevant capabilities integrated.

Visual thinking steps

This is the first in a series of tips, tricks and recipes for designers, artists and other visual thinkers working in meetings and other sessions where large amounts of complex information need to be collected and visualized. It’s a peek into how XPLANE approaches discovery and uses visual thinking to communicate key ideas.

Why we do it:

Live sketching gets people engaged in the discovery process and leads to ideas that may not have presented themselves via normal note-taking. The response to visuals being created before a clients’ or colleagues’ eyes is energetic, and that leads to a natural desire to fill in the picture, completely. The result: Understanding and alignment, quickly.

to know what are the steps? just click on the link below. and personally me, i don’t think “designers” is the right word to say anyone and everyone should be doing this. talking and writing is very leftside thinking. doodling and sketching is very rightside thinking. so to get the best energy out, people need to do both. again this goes back to my philosophy of talking vs doing.

The Great White or what is blue?

I am doing logo trending… cause well, we are in a great year of reconstruction. That is what i call it, i don’t see it as a recession but a great confusion of what to do. people are reformatting themselves everywhere you go, including me. (this also includes people who do have jobs, cause like me, we are seeing changes everywhere and we don’t wish to be left behind.)

companies are changing their logos, even to the point that walmart has change it branding to the “great value” logo. I think they realize that the philosophy of costumer is always right has gone past its limit and backfire on them.

Now they are taking that Target like approach to give their consumers some “direction” or helpful decision tips.

The power of language! it is a cool experiment that this designer did to see how demanding you have to be to get followers on twitter. WOW…. maybe i should open up more instead of holding myself back.

Dollar ReDe$ign Project

I miss out on this but i still can see why we can’t still keep posting ideas for a new currency. Seriously we been needing a newal a long time, the whole dollar coin is one example of no design common sense! no one accepted the one dollar coin cause it feels like a quarter! but this is a good example how to flat line the country to see what their citizens want for a new money currency. I LOVE IT!

here are some examples:

The Spectrum of User Experience

Okay, really i am not an expert in the field of UX design and many really have better grasp of what user experience design is about.

In the end, my simple explanation: it is about you the person doing an action with an object. We the “designers” analyze these events.

(and i have to say designer is not the right jargon for this terminology because today everyone associated with that word designer as someone who is artistic – or can draw! which is not really the case. engineers, business, mathematicians, etc etc who cares/empathize with humanity are in a way the designers)

but i saw this several days ago and you really have to go to the flickr page of iA to see how they split this diagram into different conversations of all the roles people play in this process of user experience design. If gives clarity to what we do, but also allows to make better questions to wonder if this is what we are doing or how we should improve ourselves.
